Company history...
It all started when Ernest Green set up an engineering consultancy back in 1959. White Young then formed in Leeds in 1964 as a partnership between Ron Young and Terence White.
White Young and Partners operated as a civil and structural engineering consultancy until 1978 when the partners sold the business to Central and Sherwood Plc. The business formed a limited company and began trading as White Young Consulting Engineers.
In 1975, the company acquired Prentice Royle, which specialised in mechanical, electrical and energy engineering. At that stage, the company operated as a multi-discipline engineering consultancy with a regional presence in both the north and south of England. The acquisition of a number of small businesses followed, leading to a management buy-out in 1986. The business continued to operate as a limited company delivering multi-discipline engineering consultancy services into a varied client base.
As a regional consultancy with a larger proportional turnover into the public sector and geographical presence greater in the north of England. Further diversification of services continued, particularly in project management for clients such as defence estates, home office and local government. The company continued to grow to approximately 350 staff operating out of 12 offices.
The merger between White Young Consulting Group Ltd and Ernest Green Holding plc occurred in July 1997. This reverse takeover by White Young formed a new plc, White Young Green. The combined companies had a very different geographical coverage and client base. Ernest Green Holdings plc had a strong private sector client base centred in the South of England, Bristol, London and Norwich.
Since the merger, the company has grown from a regional consulting engineering business into an international consultancy through organic growth and over 20 acquisitions including, Savell Bird Axon, Tweeds and Trench Farrow in the UK and Denis Rooney Associates, PH McCarthy and Nolan Ryan in Ireland.
The acquisition of IMC Consulting and DeLeeuw International helped the company to develop internationally.
In 2008, the company restructured and rebranded to WYG.
Today, WYG has over 2,500 employees and operates in over 40 countries. If you want to find out more about our company
